Rich Tula, Chief Executive Officer

Rich Tula is the Chief Executive Officer and founder of Copia Scientific, bringing decades of leadership and innovation to the biotech equipment industry. He previously served as CEO and co-founder of Biodirect, Inc., a leading biotech equipment reseller established in 2002. With a strong background in mechanical engineering, product development, technology assessments, asset management, and technical support processes, Rich has built a career around advancing laboratory efficiency and accessibility.

Before founding Biodirect, Rich was a managing partner at Biomatic Technologies Inc. (BTI), where he developed the pioneering "one source" business model. BTI was later acquired by PerkinElmer in 2005. He also served as International Marketing Manager for Comdisco’s Lab and Scientific Group (CLSG), a Fortune 500 company, where he gained global experience in the biotech and pharmaceutical sectors. Over his 22+ years in federal, biotech, pharmaceutical, and medical markets, Rich has authored technical papers and spoken nationally on asset management, risk and lifecycle management, workflow optimization, and laboratory security.

Rich holds a degree in Biomedical Engineering from the Community College of the Air Force, Colorado Community College, and Pierce College. He is committed to giving back, volunteering with inner-city youth to support education and personal growth and donating equipment to help establish molecular biology labs in high schools. A strong advocate for sustainability, Rich is also an avid supporter of environmentally friendly "green" building technologies.
